Destroy Any Website: A Game That Turns Any Web Page Into a Level to Smash
Published on · Joaquín Dati
Have you ever looked at a web page as a stage? A free game from Sprite Fusion proposes exactly that: type the address of any site and shoot your way through it. It is called Destroy Any Website and runs in the browser, with nothing to install.
What it is
It is a pixel-art action game. By its own description, the text, images and boxes of the page you choose become a destructible level. You can play solo or with friends, and there is also a quick online match option.
How it plays
The character, a stick figure, runs and jumps with the A and D keys, flies if you hold the jump, shoots and throws grenades. Several weapons can be switched with the number keys. The game notes that it needs a wide window: it is designed for a large screen, though it also offers touch controls and can be added to a phone's home screen.
Why it is interesting for designers and developers
- A page as game material: what is normally content becomes terrain, which shows how much visual structure a site has.
- An editor as a foundation: it was made by Sprite Fusion, known for its browser-based tilemap editor, and the page states the game is made with it.
- A format built for sharing: it has multiplayer, a link to save for later and an option to embed it in your own site so visitors can smash it.
What to keep in mind
Results depend on each site, and this note does not analyze how the game does it internally: it describes what the game itself reports. It is also not an audit tool, just a playful experiment.
An invitation
Try it with your own site or a page you know well. Seeing it turned into a level is a curious way to look at design from the outside.
